Last winter came with vast amounts of snow, and from Europe as well as North America they say it was the real winter as they knew it from before. Way into April snow showed up and gave machinery and men the clear message that global warming still not is present in this area.
And of course, inset lights and snow removal equipment on the airports have taken their toll, and thousands of damaged and crushed fixtures are piling up. Except where the inset lights from Advanced Light were installed. Our fixtures survive winter after winter after winter etc. And should damage occur due to other reasons than snow clearing, you would not need huge crates to take care of the waste.
We know for certain that airports with Advanced Light installed have been saving during the winter and much more now as there is no repair to be carried out. They don’t have to grab deep into the pocket using the tax payer’s money to maintain something that could have been avoided.
Is this a dream? No, replacing the conventional fixture with Advanced Light, will reduce your risk of damage with more than 70%. Not to mention the increased lifetime you achieve with a fully flush fixture. The filament on the halogen lamp turns as we know, very fragile when it is hot, and protruded fixtures will be more exposed to shocks and vibrations than a completely flat one. It is a just a clean roll over. And the benefit of that is immediately recognized by the pilots as you don’t have the “thump thump” from the nose gear hitting all the semi flush fixtures. They will then be able to follow the centre line as intended instead of trying to avoid the lights by maneuvering to the side of the line.
To cover your inventory of a complete row of conventional taxiway centre line lights, you will have to keep track of minimum 200 bits and pieces at all times. Due to the unique construction of Advanced Light you will have less than 30 parts to keep control of!
What still surprises us is that the airports can afford to say no.
